Account info How Spending Time in Nature Can Improve Your Health and Well-Being

Spending time outside isn''t just a great way to have fun this summer—it''s good for you, too. Research shows that exploring the outdoors does have health benefits. We''ve compiled 10 ways you can experience the healing power of nature while camping.

Relieve pressure. Reduce anxiety. After just 20 minutes of being in nature, people''s stress hormones drop.

Better sleep. Scientists have discovered that when you wake up when the sun rises and go to bed when the sun sets, your body can reset to your natural sleep cycle - giving you exactly what sleep you need.

Improve mental health. Reduce depression. Being in nature can increase energy, improve mood and increase overall well-being.

Greater well-being and improved mood. Spending time with friends and family without the daily distractions allows you to reconnect with your loved ones and to feel a sense of gratitude.

Increase physical activity. Besides setting up your campsite, hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, canoeing, and more are so much fun you won''t even realize you''re exercising.

It''s time to focus. Too much habitual digital device time can affect our ability to focus, remember, and regulate our emotions. Commit to the experience and step away from the screen and reconnect without digital distractions.

Recover from illness. Nature-based experiences support pain management, immune function, and postoperative recovery, including for adult and pediatric cancer patients.

Sunshine and fresh air. Fresh air helps clean your lungs and allows you to breathe deeply. Natural sunlight produces the daily amount of vitamin D needed for optimal health.

The thrill of the challenge. New experiences that stimulate you physically and mentally help keep your brain healthy, not to mention the positive sense of accomplishment and pride when you challenge yourself and unleash your creativity.

Eat healthier. Camping eliminates fast food options and encourages us to eat whole foods.

Tips and Tricks for a Safe and Enjoyable Experience

Tip #1: Research where you''re going

It can be difficult to know what to bring camping without doing some research on what''s going on in the area. Will you be camping by the sea? Or will you be in the desert? To be safe in places like the desert, the gear you need to carry is very different from what you need in the forest. What creatures do you need to watch out for? Would you go somewhere where there might be bears? Or will mosquitoes be your worst nemesis? Either way, you need to be ready to fend off anyone or anything that might spoil your fun.

Tip #2: Check the weather

Few things can ruin a camping trip faster than your unexpected downpour.Rain doesn''t necessarily turn things from sweet to sour, as long as you realize in advance that it might. An unprepared rain can not only cause a quick change of mood, it can also be dangerous if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time.Things like thunderstorms can make you very vulnerable if you''re not careful. To avoid any of this from happening, check a few different sources for the weather conditions you are likely to encounter during your trip. Also, it might be a good idea to bring some extra gear in case the weatherman predicts it wrong.

TIP #3: Bring a first aid kit

When camping, first aid kits are non-transferable.In the wild outdoors, there are many things that are out of your control, so you always want to be prepared if something goes wrong. You can buy a first aid kit or assemble it yourself. No matter which route you take, make sure your kit has prepared.

Tip #4: Choose Your Camping Style

While this may not seem like a security issue, it is.Consider who you''re traveling with and what amenities they need. For example, if you''re going camping with the elderly or people with health issues, tent camping might not be the best idea.Instead, you may want to go camping in a cabin that offers more comfort and support.

Tip#5:Pack versatile products

To find the best outdoor products, look no further than rechargeable hand warmers for camping. The Ocoopa Union 2s Rechargeable Hand Warmers are the perfect example of a convenient and cost-effective way to keep your hands warm while camping in the winter, and you can split them into two hand warmers for both hands. They are perfect for those who are looking for a durable and adjustable camping hand warmer with power bank function for flexible use during outdoor activities or travel.

Exploring America''s Public Lands for Camping

If you''re looking for the perfect secluded spot for your next camping trip or adventure, here are 10 national forests, along with great details and facts about how to get there.

Chugach National Forest, Alaska

We understand why you might want to visit the Tongass National Forest when you’re in Alaska – the largest landslide in the nation – but Chugach (the northernmost national forest covering an area the size of New Hampshire) is a far better choice. Epic camping trip. Chugach is an almost untouched temperate rainforest in the mountains around Prince William Sound, with miles and miles of incredible coastline, rivers and forests, but no roads or trails in sight. This forest alone is home to as many bald eagles as there are in the lower 48 states combined, and glaciers (and glacier tours) are everywhere. When people say "America the Beautiful," this is what they mean.

Olympic National Forest, Washington

The Olympic National Forest surrounds Olympic National Park on almost all sides, which means to visit the latter you have to go through the former—so why not stop in the forest? The forests are lush and diverse, from coastal rainforests to alpine peaks. Some mountain hikes, most notably Mt. Ellinor, offer panoramic views of the Puget Sound to the south and direct access to the national park to the north.

Sierra National Forest, California

Although the Sierra National Forest has been devastated by recent wildfires, it rivals nearby Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Parks in its splendor. In fact, over the years, some forests have been partitioned to create other parks and forests. Here, you can enjoy views of the rolling foothills and chilly Sierra Crest, and don''t miss the John Muir and Ansel Adams Wilderness Area, where you can wander the landscape that made the area famous. among the giant sequoias.

San Bernardino National Forest, California

SBNF is arguably the best campground in Southern California. Escape the heat of the valley and climb to the wooded high altitudes, home to pine, fir, cedar and juniper trees. Southern California''s tallest mountain, Mount San Gorgonio is a great place for summit hikes, with world-class ski resorts nearby. Campgrounds like Dogwood Campground are great for a quiet getaway.

Sawtooth National Forest, Idaho

This popular national forest may receive more than a million visitors a year, but with 11 different mountains within its borders, it''s easy to find your own piece of wooded paradise. Sotoos is known as the "forest for all seasons" and visitors can enjoy many recreational options throughout the year. Best of all, central Idaho has been designated a "Gold-Level" protected area by the International Dark Sky Association, meaning the area has minimal light pollution and stunning starry sky views at night.

Dixie National Forest, Utah

Being close to three popular national parks (Zion, Bryce and Arches), it would be easy to overlook Dixie, but that would be a mistake. As the crowds flock to the park, you can admire striking red rock formations at elevations ranging from 2,800 to more than 11,000 feet and hike through spectacular desert scenery. Climb to Powell Point to overlook three states at once.

Bridger Teton National Forest, Wyoming

Adjacent to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, Bridger-Teton National Forest is the fifth largest national forest in the United States and boasts stunning views of the Tetons and surrounding wilderness. Walk through pine, spruce, fir and aspen groves that are home to elk, bison, grizzly bears and mountain lions, and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is nearby after the hike.

Gunnison National Forest, Colorado

The largest of many fantastic national forests in the Rocky Mountain region, Gunnison covers 1.6 million acres and was established in 1905 by Theodore Roosevelt. Its 3,000 miles of trails and plenty of fishing spots are the draw, but the stunning views of the Painted Wall from Black Canyon are what set this forest above other nearby options.

Ozark National Forest, Arkansas

The Ozark is often paired with the nearby St. Francis National Forest, which covers 1.2 million acres, mostly in the mountains of northern Arkansas. You can ascend Magazine Mountain, the state''s tallest peak, or descend into Blanchard-Springs Caverns, a spectacular underground cave system. Head deep into hardwood forests of hickory and oak to find year-round solitude.

Superior National Forest, Minnesota

If canoeing is your thing, this is the National Forest for you. Located on the northern shore of Lake Superior, close to the U.S.-Canada border, SNF has more than 445,000 acres of water with thousands of lakes, rivers, and hot and cold streams. Traverse the same trails once used by Native Americans and some of the earliest European explorers, or venture ice fishing and cross-country skiing in winter.
